Data Deletion

You can delete your account and data yourself at any time. Here is how, and exactly what happens next.

1.Delete your account in the app#

  1. Sign in at www.promptabide.com.
  2. Open Settings → Privacy & data.
  3. Optional: choose Download my data first to get a copy (JSON).
  4. Choose Delete my account and confirm.

As soon as you confirm, your public profile is hidden from other users, every other device and browser is signed out, and connected apps (such as ChatGPT) are disconnected. The device you used stays signed in. You then have a 30-day grace period: cancel from the same page at any time during it (signing in again on another device works too) if you change your mind. When the 30 days end, your content is erased and the deletion is permanent.

2.Delete by email#

If you cannot sign in, email hello@promptabide.com from the email address on your account, and include your username. We may ask you to confirm the request before we act, so that no one else can delete your account. We complete requests within 30 days.

3.What is deleted#

When the grace period ends, we delete:

  • your account and profile;
  • your bides, questions, answers, comments and articles, and the images and video you uploaded (removed from Cloudinary);
  • answers other people posted on your questions, which are removed together with the question;
  • your likes, votes, follows, saved items and private notes;
  • your devices, sessions, push subscriptions and notifications; and
  • your activity log.

Copies we cannot reach

Public content could have been copied by other people, cached by search engines or read by AI assistants before you deleted it. We cannot delete those copies. Search engines usually drop deleted pages after they next visit them.

4.What we keep, and for how long#

  • A minimal registration record (your user ID, a hash of your email address and account dates) for 180 days after deletion, because India’s IT Rules 2021 require it. It is then purged.
  • Consent records for the same 180 days, so we can show what you agreed to.
  • Server and security logs for up to 180 days, as India’s CERT-In Directions require.
  • Encrypted backups, until they roll off after about 3 months. We do not restore deleted accounts from backups.
  • Anything a court order or a legal claim requires, only for as long as it requires.

5.Other options#

Deactivate instead

Deactivating hides your account until you sign in again; signing in reactivates it. Nothing is deleted. To deactivate instead of deleting, email hello@promptabide.com.

Delete individual items

You can delete any bide, question, answer, comment or article you posted from its menu, at any time.

Sign out devices

In Settings → Privacy & data you can sign out of all devices at once, including connected apps.

6.Disconnect Google or GitHub, and remove the extension#

Deleting your PromptAbide account does not change your Google or GitHub account. To remove PromptAbide’s access there as well:
